#TGIFC112 Let’s Hear It For The Boys: No Bones About It

No Bones About It

Sad news this week……Mojo Monday has posted a final sketch.  I’ve always loved playing along with their weekly sketches and have found that they have stretched my creativity over the years.  However, I can’t begin to tell you how excited I am about joining the TGIF Challenges team recently.  The talent and commitment of this group is nothing short of amazing.  They always inspire me with their weekly designs and this week is certainly no exception.  You can click on the challenge picture below to see what the other designers created.  As always, we invite you to play along with us. We love to see your creations!

I no longer have a little boy, but I still love the dinosaurs in the No Bones About It stamp set.  I’ll find any excuse to make a card with this set, so this challenge was perfect for me.  I paired the No Bones About It with the Naturally Eclectic Designer Series Paper, using the final Mojo Monday sketch.  The color combo just screams “BOY” to me:  Night of Navy, Lemon Lime Twist, Soft Sky, and Tranquil Tide.

No Bones About It

Don’t you just love the playful mixture of patterns in the Naturally Eclectic Designer Series Paper?

For the focal point, I stamped the dinosaur in Lemon Lime Twist and Tranquil Tide inks, then fussy cut him.  The greeting was stamped in Night of Navy and Lemon Lime Twist, then die cut with the Big Shot and the Stitched Shapes Framelits.  I added a tiny bit of Lemon Lime Twist 1/4″ Ombre Ribbon behind the focal point to help it stand out a little more.

Oh So Eclectic #SSINKCS46 Sketch Challenge

Oh So Eclectic
By now you’ve had the chance to drool over the 2017-2018 Annual Catalog and I’m sure you were blown away by the colorful designs on the front cover.  Today’s card features several products from the catalog cover, including the Oh So Eclectic stamp set and the coordinating Naturally Eclectic Designer Series Paper.  I used this week’s sketch from Stylin’ Stampin’ INKSpiration for my layout.  Be sure to visit the SSINK blog and play along with us this week.
Oh So Eclectic
At first glance, this card probably looks fairly simple.  However, it took some work to line everything up properly.  I had to use a Stamp-a-ma-jig and a little masking technique to create the layered flowers.  It is rare for me to dust off the Stamp-a-ma-jig.  I’m very much an “eyeball it” kind-of girl, but I could not line these flowers up correctly without it.  Perhaps, you’ll have better luck!  If you are interested in seeing a video on how I stamped these images, just leave me a comment on this post.  I’m hoping to get some video time in this week.
Oh So Eclectic
You’ll notice that there is a bit of texture to these images.  It really adds a watercolor look to the card.  I did stamp off the ink one time for each of the “solid” flower stamps to create a lighter color, before stamping the line-art stamp over it at full-strength.

If you’d like to add the Oh So Eclectic stamp set to your collection, you’ll find a complete list of supplies at the end of this post.

Freaky Sneak Peek

Control Freaks Blog Hop

Welcome to the Control Freaks monthly blog tour! This month’s theme is New Catalog Sneak Peek!

This is the first stop on the tour, but you may have just visited the very talented, Dawn Olchefske.  She always has some amazing projects to share.  You’ll want to read through to end of this post to find out your next stop on the tour.

Every year, Stampin’ UP! introduces five new colors to add to our existing line.  These colors are only available for 2 years, and then they are retired.  I like to introduce customers to the new IN Color arrivals at my new catalog launch parties.  I find the best way to do that is with a simple make & take project that is quick, easy, and highlights each individual color.

Powder Pink IN Color Card

For these cards, I used the following products:

Thick Whisper White Card Stock

In Color 8-1/2″ x 11″ Card Stock

Happy Birthday Thinlits (with the Big Shot)

Fresh Florals Designer Series Paper Stack

1/2″ Finely Woven Ribbon in each color

Fresh Fig In Color Card

To conserve paper, I cut the Happy Birthday Thinlits from the In Color Card Stock that is behind the front panel.  I love showing my customers neat little tricks like this!  The measurements that I use for the Designer Series Paper also helps with maximizing the paper for creating multiple cards.

Berry Burst In Color Card

Here are the measurements for the card pieces in order of layers from back to front:

Whisper White:  4-1/4″ x 11″ scored at 5-1/2″  OR 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ scored at 4-1/4″

In Color Card Stock:  4″ x 5-1/4″

Whisper White:  3-3/4″ x 5″

Fresh Florals Designer Series Paper:  1-3/4″ x 3-3/4″ or 3/4″ by 5″

Lemon Lime Twist In Color Card

At my open house events, I will let my customers select their favorite color for their make & take project.  It is exciting to see which colors are the most popular each year.  I haven’t picked a favorite because I love them all!

Tranquil Tide In Color Card

Have you picked a favorite new In Color?

Tell me about in the comments.  I’d love to hear your thoughts.

A Fun Look for the Eastern Palace Suite

Bright Eastern Palace Suite

Today, I’m sharing a very simple card using the Eastern Palace Suite.  It’s a bit different from the other cards I’ve created so far, but I love the whimsical and bright look.  The colors I used for this card are Berry Burst, Bermuda Bay, Lemon-Lime Twist, and Old Olive.

Bright Eastern Palace

To create the flowers, I had to stamp one of the medallion images twice, offsetting it slightly the second time.  The flowers were stamped on individual panels of Whisper White card stock.  I added the little spray image in Old Olive ink around the flowers to give it a leafy appearance.  The greeting is also from the Eastern Beauty Photopolymer stamp set and was stamped in Basic Black archival ink on the bottom panel.

Friends Forever Close Up

Each panel was popped up with Stampin’ Dimensionals.  For an additional pop of color, I added some of the new Glitter Enamel Dots to the center of each flower.

This card can literally be created in less than 10 minutes.  What a perfect way to surprise a good friend!

Some of the products used on this card are available this month during a special preorder period.  You’ll be able to purchase the Berry Burst and Lemon-Lime Twist stamp pads on June 1st.  The Glitter Enamel Dots have been extremely popular with demonstrators during our preorder, so they may not be available when the catalog goes live.  I’ll keep you posted on their status because you are definitely going to want them for yourself!

Happy Birthday Gorgeous

Happy Birthday Gorgeous

I am swooning over this new stamp set called Happy Birthday Gorgeous!

I just know you are going to love it.  It’s a 2-step stamping set with a wide variety of images and greetings that will be available in the 2017-2018 Annual Catalog beginning June 1st.  I created a very simple card today using this layout from CAS(E) this Sketch.

Lately, I’ve been using the Thick Whisper White card stock for all of my clean & simple cards.  It gives the card a little extra “oomph” and makes it seem more substantial.  I started by stamping the greeting in the lower right corner with Basic Black archival ink.  Then, I went on to build the floral background around it.

Happy Birthday Gorgeous CTS220

I stamped the stems & leaves with Lemon-Lime Twist ink, a new In Color for 2017.  The larger flower stamp is created with 2 stamps.  First, I stamped the more solid image by stamping off the ink first before stamping the card to create a lighter shade.  Then, I stamped the detailed stamp full-strength over it.  The larger flowers were stamped with Berry Burst and Crushed Curry inks.  I filled in with some Bermuda Bay, Powder Pink, and stamped-off Lemon-Lime twist flowers and swirls.

Happy Birthday Gorgeous Close Up

The final touch was a few of the new Glitter Enamel Dots.  These come in a package of 160, and feature ombre shades of Dapper Denim, Crushed Curry, Berry Burst, and Old Olive.  I can see that these will become a new favorite of mine!

This card reminds me of a more masculine birthday card that I created last year.  You can view it HERE on Pinterest.  It has become one of my most popular Pins.  Be sure to follow me while you’re there!
