Magical Mermaid

It’s the last Friday of the month and that means we are featuring one of our designers at TGIF Challenges.  I am thrilled that my good friend, Elizabeth Price, is this month’s Designer Spotlight.  I’ve know her for several years and I’m always in awe of her creations.  Be sure to check out her blog to see for yourself.

Elizabeth is a master of layering various papers and her use of accessories is always spot on.  You can click HERE to see the card I chose to CASE.  When I saw what she did with the Hexagon embossing folder, I knew I had to try it myself.  For the background, I started by embossing Shimmery White card stock with the Hexagons embossing folder and the Big Shot.  I lightly rubbed my Basic Black ink pad onto the folder before running it through the machine to create the black outlines.

Mermaid Kisses

I thought that the hexagons resembled the scales on a fish or a mermaid’s tail, so I selected 3 colors that would look iridescent when combined:  Pacific Point, Emerald Envy, and Perfect Plum.  An Aqua Painter was used to color the hexagons and the Magical Mermaid image.  The tail was a blend of the colors and was brushed with the Clear Wink of Stella to make it shimmer.

If you look closely, you’ll see that I used quite a few gold products to embellish the card, as well as a small bit of burlap ribbon.  At first, I felt like I went a tiny bit overboard with the embellishments and was certainly stepping outside of my clean and simple comfort zone.  However, thanks to Elizabeth’s inspiration, this is definitely a favorite new technique and design.

  1. This is beautiful. I loved that colored hexagon card of Ellizabeth’s, too! You totally did it justice–love the watercolor imperfection of the hexagons and how you colored the mermaid and added the Wink of Stella on her tail. Like Elizabeth, your layers are perfection. Gorgeous!!!
