I’m going to preface this blog post by stating that I am not an expert in coloring anything. However, I do frequently get asked about how I color certain stamped images. Today I’m going to share my tips for using Stampin’ Blends for skin tones. Stampin’ Blends are alcohol markers that help you create highlights and shadows for a more 3-dimensional coloring effect. The colors below are the ones I frequently use when coloring skin tones.

Once you have your markers, I strongly suggest you create a Skin Tone Chart to help you visualize what the colors will look like. I’ve provided a link to download a chart. Print this chart on Basic White cardstock. Starting with the Ivory Stampin’ Blend, color the Ivory row all the way across the page. Continue doing this across the page with each Blend listed. As a final step, you will begin layering colors down the page. Check out the video to see this in action.

Now you are ready to practice, practice, practice. I like to use at least 3 colors when I’m blending skin tones. In the video, I began by putting a layer of Ivory down on the practice sheet first. Next, I layered on Dark Petal Pink and Light Petal Pink and blended them together. You’ll also want to pay attention to your light source and shadows to get that 3-dimensional effect. I cover all of this in the video.

Now that you’ve completed your chart and done a little practice, you are ready to put your new skills to work. In the video, I used the Stellar Birthday stamp set. The Hey Girlfriend stamp set is another one that is great for practicing your skills, but it’s only available through June 30, 2021.
