Background Masking Technique

Party Panda Background Masking Technique

It’s Technique Time at TGIF Challenges and this week the designers are featuring the Masking technique.  There are several ways to do this technique, so you’ll definitely want to check out the blog for more inspiration.  I’m showing a very simple version for creating a fun background effect, but I also have a bonus video project at the end of this post.

Masking

I began by stamping the panda image onto Whisper White card stock.  Next, I placed a sticky note over the upper half of the panda body.  Using a stamping sponge, I began applying Lemon-Lime Twist ink to the bottom portion of the card.  I removed the sticky note, then used it to cover the area that I had just inked.  With Bermuda Bay ink and a sponge, I applied ink to the top half of the card stock.  I added a few stamped stars in Bermuda Bay ink over the sponged area.Party Panda Sale-a-Bration 2018

On a separate piece of Whisper White card stock, I stamped a second panda image in Basic Black archival ink.  After the image was carefully cut out, I adhered it to the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals.   The balloon image was stamped onto a piece of Picture Perfect Designer Series Paper, cut out, and popped up with dimensionals.  As a final accent, I added a few Bermuda Bay enamel stars.

Card Measurements

  • Whisper White:  4-1/4″ x 11″, scored at 5-1/2″
  • Picture Perfect Birthday Designer Series Paper:  4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″
  • Whisper White:  3-1/4″ x 4-1/2″
  • Basic Black:  3-1/2″ x 4-3/4″

Another way to mask is to use your stamps with sticky notes.  I created the video below to demonstrate how I do that with the Oh So Ecelctic stamp set.

I hope you are inspired to try one or both of these fun masking techniques.  Be sure to upload your creations to the TGIF Challenges blog.

Thanks so much for stopping by!
