Flower Garden: Control Freaks April 2021

Hi everyone and welcome to another great blog hop from the Control Freak Stampers! You may have arrived here from Bree Renwick’s blog. She is so unbelievably talented and her projects are always incredible! I’ll have your next link at the bottom of this post. Our theme this month is Flower Garden. Much like a real flower garden, we have to prune the older flower stamp sets from the catalog to make room for new stamp sets in the upcoming 2021-2022 Annual Catalog. Today, I’m sharing 3 of my favorite retiring floral stamp sets.

No one really likes to see dandelions growing in their yard or garden, but I absolutely love this stamp set. It has beautiful images of dandelions and the mixed fonts for the sentiments is AMAZING. This card was super easy to make, too! I started by layering 3 pieces of card stock (Coastal Cabana, Pool Party, and Mint Macaron) that each measured 1-3/4″ x 4″ onto a piece of 4″ x 5-1/4″ Basic White card stock. Using the Stamparatus, I stamped the dandelion image and greeting onto the layers with Black Memento ink. Next, I ran it through the Stampin’ Cut & Emboss Machine with the Subtle Embossing Folder (also retiring soon) to give it a nice texture. A quick bow with the Playful Pets Bakers twine and a few Elegant Faceted Gems finish it off in style.

Pruning the Flower Garden: These stamp sets are retiring SOON!

What’s not to love about the Field of Flowers stamp set? Personally, I love that you can easily build a flower garden scene with just a few stamps, some ink, and paper. For this card, I began by stamping the grass image in Granny Apple Green ink onto Basic White card stock. I used Blending Brushes with more Granny Apple Green ink to fill in the area below the grass and I added a bit of Pool Party ink above the grass. Next, I stamped the large stem and leaves in Granny Apple Green. I found that using the Stamparatus really helps in placing the remaining stamped elements: little flowers in Melon Mambo, big flowers in Bumblebee, greetings in Black Memento ink, and Dragonflies in Misty Moonlight. Again I used a few Elegant Faceted Gems to give it some subtle sparkle.

And that brings us to Ornate Style. I’m not sure how Ornate Style can retire without Ornate Thanks, but it is. I love to color big, floral images (you can see one here) but for today’s card I kept is simple black and white with a bold pop of colors. I’ve been working on a project behind the scenes that has left me with tons of 1/2″ paper strips. On this card, I’m using Mint Macaron, Bumblebee, Old Olive, and Terracotta Tile. I shot a quick video to demonstrate this card. Don’t mind the boo-boo…..it has worked every time for me except when the camera was rolling. LOL!

You’re next stop on the Control Freaks tour is Connie Tumm. I’m sure she’ll wow you with her amazing work!
