Layering Diorama Dies: Control Freaks May 2021

Hi everyone and welcome to another great blog hop from the Control Freak Stampers! You may have arrived here from Debbie Henderson’s blog. She is so unbelievably talented and her projects are always incredible! I’ll have your next link at the bottom of this post. Our theme this month is Dynamic Duos, using 2 die sets together. My projects feature the Pirates & Mermaids stamp set and the Layering Diorama Dies. These dies are a standalone set in the catalog, so they pair well with many other stamp & die combinations as you’ll soon see below.

For my first project, I used the Layering Diorama dies to cut the opening for this mermaid shaker card. The background image was created using the blending brushes and ink with the Plenty of Patterns Decorative Masks. Within the shaker, I added several colors of sequins from the Sequins for Everything Pack.

This first pirate card is a shadowbox card that uses the same measurements and technique as the one in this post: https://thestampdoc.com/pampered-pets-sympathy-card-tgifc313-inspiration-challenge/. These are very easy to make with minimal supplies and the unique die shape creates a very interesting opening. What I love about these cards is that they will fold flat for mailing!

My final pirate card uses the negative from the Layering Diorama dies to create an island. I simply cut the “island” from Soft Suede card stock and sponged ink around the edges to give it a sandy effect. This is my first Dynamic Duo card. I used the Scalloped Contours Dies to create a scallop border with Basic White card stock, then used it as a mask for the waves. The cloud border from the Basic Borders dies was used to create a mask for the sky. If you’d like to see some ink blending action, be sure to check out the video in today’s post.

My final card is a real showstopper. The Pirates & Mermaids stamp set goes perfectly with the Seascape bundle to create an Inside Diorama Card. Here are the measurements you’ll need for creating this card at home:

  • Coastal Cabana: 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″, scored at 4-1/4″. Cut 1/2″ off back of card.
  • Coastal Cabana: 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″, scored at 1/2″, 4-1/4″, and 4-3/4″
  • Crumb Cake: slightly smaller that 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″, scored at 1/4″ along each long side

All of the supplies for this card are listed at the end of this blog post.
