As some of you already know, the office manager of our chiropractic office is pregnant. VERY pregnant, in fact. She has worked for us for five years and we’ve known her since she was a teenager. This week, we decided to host a baby shower within the office. She has already received most of her larger, necessary gifts but I knew she was a bit short on diapers. I had always wanted to attempt a diaper cake and this was the perfect opportunity!
I followed the directions in the video below to create the base of the cake, then added my own Stampin’ UP! touches.
I used the Pick a Pattern Designer Series Paper to cover the cake layers. The paper was cut into 4″ strips, then pieced together with Tear & Tape Adhesive to create pieces long enough to cover each layer. I placed additional strips of Tear & Tape Adhesive along the top and bottom edges of the Pick a Pattern Designer Series Paper, then added some white tissue paper shred to the adhesive as “icing”.
This is what the base cake looks like:
The mom-to-be is decorating her baby’s room with dinosaurs. I found a cute stuffed dinosaur and a dinosaur board book at the Indianapolis Children’s Museum that I thought would be perfect for baby. The topper consists of 3 dinosaur Christmas ornaments (IKR?) that I hot glued onto a circle cut from the cardboard backing of the Designer Series Paper stack. Clever, huh?
I found these dinosaur ornaments at Hobby Lobby. Aren’t they adorable?
I love that she can use them as some of baby’s first Christmas ornaments, too!
It took me about 2 hours to create this cake and most of that time was spent rolling diapers. I would suggest enlisting an extra set of hands when assembling the cake. It takes about 3-4 hands to tie all the diapers together, especially the larger layers. Overall, this was a fairly easy project. I’m sure I’ll make more in the future.
Thanks so much for stopping by!
